Halloween 2 (2009)

After months of anticipation I finally got to see the result of the grueling sixteen hour day that I worked on the set of Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2. It was about five minutes of action in the middle of a bunch of other stuff. Here’s what I thought of it all…

Let’s get this out of the way: the Blair Witch strategy was on par with the first Jaws trailers. The idea was genius, and though at times slow, was a brilliant act of low budget horror filmmaking. Many folks may disagree with me and those folks can eat a bag of dicks. The living legend Ric Flair once said, “fool me once…shame on me”…

OskarI had meant to do this by Halloween, but it just didn’t happen. I was very fortunate to view two very memorable and distinctive movies during the month of October. Both made enough of an impression that I wanted to pass them along…

My sixteen year old went to see I Am Legend last week and raved about it. Tonight, my brain hurt and I had time on my hands and a buddy from work offered to buy, so we took off for a little escapism.
First, though. . . PREVIEWS!
SEMI-PRO – Will Farrell has found his niche, and that niche is in the seventies. He’s playing the owner of a B-rate basketball team that might get absorbed by the NBA. It also has Woody Harrelson. It might be funny. …

28 Weeks Later (2007)

There’s an episode of The Simpsons where Homer meets Mel Gibson. Mel is making a remake of the Capra/Stewart classic Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. I’m guilty as charged. I’ve never seen 28 Days Later, the Danny Boyle film that begat the sequel 28 Weeks Later. I like Danny Boyle and all, but I hate fast zombies. The explanation by many people that the antagonists in the film aren’t really zombies didn’t help matters, and I just never got around to seeing it. Now that I’ve seen its sequel, I’ll go back and watch it. After all, it’s got to be better than 28 Weeks Later

Life got overwhelming, lately. I was about to snap. Thankfully, that’s what friends are for. I had somehow managed to completely miss out on all of the internet hype for this movie. When Chris asked me if I wanted to see something called Snakes On a Plane, I had no idea what he was talking about. I just said, “Oh, hell yes!” Good call on my part….

If you’ve ever read any of my reviews you know that they are usually brief and to the point…just like this one is going to be. Vampires fighting werewolves is just plain cool regardless of the movie that it takes place in so the Underworld franchise gets points for that without trying…

Lots of real life lately: cancer in the family, sick animals, lots to do, a house to sell, Christmas madness. I needed a break. I got an e-mail from my buddy Chris, asking if I’d like to join him on Sunday in seeing Hostel. I hadn’t heard of it (I don’t watch TV), so dug on the web. I saw the film website. I looked up IMDB. I checked with discussion groups. A film about torture for money in the Eastern Bloc? How did I not know about this…
