LEGO Video Games: Best and Worst

I will come out and say it first: by no means do I consider myself a gamer. I like video games, and I play them a fair amount, but I’m not a gamer. My interest is very limited when it comes to most of the games on the market. I’ve never even played any games in many of the top game franchises of the last couple decades, but I can keep myself amused on classic Mario games for hours on end. There are a few game series from recent years …

Prince Rogers Nelson, 1958-2016

This is something a little different than I’ve ever done, but today has been an extremely emotional one for me.
I discovered Prince when I was around seven years old. I remember hearing 1999 on the radio and seeing its video on MTV and instantly calling it my favorite song, and I even had a Hot Wheels Little Red Corvette that was one of my favorites mainly due to the song of the same name.
In 1984, I was in a new school in a new town. The only way …

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2006)

Some days, I start putting my thoughts together on something, and then it dawns on me – I have a website for this! Not that I update it often, and not that millions of people are going to read it when I do, but it exists for purposes just like this: The moment that Warner Brothers dropped one of the most anticipated superhero films of all time.
Now, I wasn’t particularly revved up about Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. And no, it had nothing at all to do with …

Gunship: Classic Helicopter Simulation for the Commodore 64!

Nowadays, everyone has a computer. In fact, you’ve probably got a few just laying around. But just a couple of decades ago, having one was a status symbol, despite the fact that the computers that many of us had weren’t more than glorified gaming consoles. But hey, you put a keyboard on it, and it becomes educational, so it’s much more likely that Mom and Dad are going to go get you an Atari XE than a Sega Master System, right?
Of course, the most ubiquitous of these fancified game systems …

The Ten Best GoBots Ever Produced!

When I decided to write my defense of The Gobots a few weeks back, I wasn’t expecting to bring back so many fond memories for myself. In fact, I started putting together a list in my head of which of those toys oft-perceived as Transformers knockoffs that could convince even the most jaded toy fan that the GoBots had plenty to offer.
So, without any ado, I present to you the official Dork Droppings list of the best GoBots ever produced!
10. Small Foot

Small Foot just barely beat out Night Ranger …

The Tourist

What a selection we have in movies today! There’s Avatar, Chipmunks: The Squeaquel, SEVEN Saw films, and Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill have still not gone away. There is so much pathetic shit being peddled in theaters that it’s almost disturbingly pleasurable to see a movie that just tells a story. . .

My G.I. Joe-Packed Weekend!

So if updates have been more sporadic here lately than I had planned, it’s in part because I’ve had some busy weeks. Not just the parts of the week where I’m supposed to be busy doing the menial tasks that help me keep a roof over my head and food in my three hungry dogs’ bowls, but the part of the week where I’m supposed to be taking time to relax and unwind. It wasn’t but a few weeks ago that I headed to Con Nooga for a weekend of …

Con Nooga 2015

Over the years on this site, we’ve covered our time at various conventions. DragonCon, here in Atlanta, has received the most coverage, because it’s an annual tradition. Like all good nerds, we’ve made a couple of pilgrimages to San Diego Comic Con, and supplied plenty of coverage of that event as well. One of the most popular articles on this site covered a trip to Star Wars Celebration, which is a Luscasphile’s dream.
All of those are big Cons. DragonCon practically strangles downtown Atlanta every Labor Day weekend with its …

No Strings Attached (2010)

In the end, it serves to remind a person that though director Ivan Reitman is responsible for Stripes and Ghostbusters, his last directorial venture was My Super Ex-Girlfriend. In the end, it’s just another romantic comedy that mainly consists of Natalie Portman telling dick jokes.

In Defense of the GoBots!

I’m going to say something that might be the most controversial thing I’ve ever said here:
I don’t think the GoBots suck.
That might seem contrary to other things I’ve written in the past, but all I’ve ever really talked about here was the War of the Rock Lords movie specifically. The toys still hold a special place in my heart. And while it was never a popular thing to admit, I’ve always thought that quite a few of the toys were better than their more successful rivals, The Transformers. And, believe …

Fast Five (2011)

It IS fun. Waching The Rock and Vin beating bloody hell out of each other is fun. Seeing a “car chase” at the end is fun. Looking at Jordana Brewster is fun. Laughing at Paul Walker’s acting ability until I realize how much more money he makes than I do. . . not so much.

Happy Valentine’s Day, to Everybody in School!

Love is in the air! Well, in mid-February it’s more likely that the flu and a few other communicable diseases are what are actually in the air, but thanks to the Hallmark Holiday we all know as Valentine’s Day, men and women scramble to find those tiny trinkets to try and prove to their significant others that they love them more on this day than all the other days of the year. Flowers, chocolates, Mylar balloons, jewelry, stuffed animals, and of course, the multitude of pre-printed Valentine’s Day cards that …

G.I. Joe’s U.S.S. Flagg: The Greatest Toy of All Time!

In 1985, Hasbro fulfilled the dreams of millions of young boys by producing the largest playset in toy history: The U.S.S. Flagg, the (no pun intended) flagship of the G.I. Joe toy line. Thirty years later, it stands as one of the most iconic toys of all time, particularly for kids who grew up in the 1980s. For many, it is the Holy Grail of collectibles to this day.

Now, if you weren’t a ten year old boy in 1985 who was obsessed with “A Real American Hero”, you might not …

For those others, though. . . for those who grew up referring to their Frisbees as “my identity disc,” for those who still look at Ducatis and think “How would that look with a frame around it,” for those who have wondered too many times about the physics of converting mass into electrons and sucking a person into a computer. . . THIS IS FOR YOU.

The 2015 Royal Rumble Review

I’m pretty sure not everyone who reads this site is a fan of professional wrestling. Hell, I’ve barely even touched upon the subject over the last decade and a half, but I’ve been a fan of it all my life. And when I say that, I say it as someone who more often detests the product than enjoys it, but can’t ever fully wean myself off of it. I’ve done that as much as I ever have at this point, eschewing all other organizations other than the WWE, and even …

Small Wonder: A Child Unlike Other Girls!

It was a lazy Sunday, and I was glancing at the channel listings. And as is often the case, I was treated to the usual – lots of terrible reality stuff, a thousand sports shows, and movies that I enjoy but seem to air all the damned time. I mean, I love Die Hard as much as anybody, but I’m not sure that it needs to be always airing on some channel on my cable listings at some point every weekend. On that note, I’ve never seen White Chicks, and …

A Visit to BrickFair!

For those of you who know me personally, this is no real revelation. But for many of you reading this site, you may be surprised to know that I’m an AFOL: An Adult Fan of Lego. I confessed my lifelong love affair with plastic bricks a while back on Needless Things, but this may be the first time I’ve ever discussed it here on this site.

As a certified AFOL, I do a lot of things to feed my hobby. I have a LEGO room in my house, after all. I’m …

Breaking Dead

Okay, so, everybody loves zombies, right? Yeah. So, not too long ago, as i was going to work, i saw some. Really. No, i mean REALLY really.
i work in downtown Atlanta. At the Internet factory. When you have to be to work before 8 AM on a Sunday, you expect the city to be dead quiet. You do NOT, however, expect the breakfasting pedestrians to be dead too. But there they were. Actually, it was the overturned, burned-out bus i saw first. For a second i wondered if I’d missed …

The Expendables (2010)

Sylvester Stallone deserves another Oscar, this one for Making The Film That Needed To Be Made. Just as Kill Bill was made for we comic book geeks who like samurai films and westerns, The Expendables is the film for those of us who love action movies. It’s not perfect. It’s not revolutionary. It’s just that the idea of this film is exactly what our summer movie season needed…
