WHERE'D THE ADS GO?

I don't know.

WHERE'D THE MOTHERFUCKIN' ADS GO?

I don't know.

Okay, actually, I do know. I just wanted to have an excuse to parody Ween's rejected Pizza Hut commercial jingle.

You see, from this day forward, I have decided that it is in the best interest of Movie Criticism for the Retarded to cease the corporate whoring that I've done with an ad affiliate I've been using for the past year or so. Why? Basically, because I work my ass off on this site, and decided that I would try and make a little money and draw traffic by adding the ads, but the click-through rate is so friggin' disproportionate with that ad server that you have to have about 100 people click through a link before the ad server will even display your ad on another site. On top of that, they pester me nonstop about my ad placement and suggest that i put huge invasive ads all over each individual page. But y'know something? Fuck that. I do this site for fun more than any other reason, and I don't give a rat's ass that the 468.60 banner I put down on the site to help their asses out to begin with is "below the crease". And to go even further, there was more than one occasion where the ads I was placing were generating pop-ups and installing spyware, despite the fact that I specifically opted out of that.

So basically, I did it for you folks. You shouldn't have to wade through mounds of ads just to read psychotic rumblings about movies. This site is content-driven, not ad-driven, and it's about time I got back in the groove with that.

Besides, Gorilla Nation, the ad service I was using, has yet to pay out a dime despite the fact that I should have generated well over $100 at this point.

You will notice that I am keeping affiliate programs listed on the site, such as the Amazon.com and Movielink buttons. These programs are actually worth dealing with, don't pester me with asinine directives, and aren't invasive with their ad content. Besides, they tie in to my content, and have paid out when they promised to. Also, I still have a row of banners for my partner sites. These sites are generally folks like myself who are just doing this for the fun of it, and I encourage everyone to check them out, I've added a new partner, The Sci-Fi Movie Page, which has a ton of reviews of genre flicks.

You'll also notice that I've cleaned up and moved a few things on the front page. Just wanted to freshen it up a bit, because it had been a long time since I archived anything and the front page was starting to reach critical mass.

This weekend I'm hoping to go hunting for some new bootleg toys for a February article, but I still have plenty more untapped ones even if I fail to strike gold this time around. Tune in Monday for an new Surreal Life review and happy motoring!
